About Me

Welcome everybody! I’m Sara. I started this blog because two things happened at about the same time in my life:

The first was that I discovered the financial independence movement a few years ago. I’m an accountant who works in corporate finance, so I’ve always been a good with personal finance and budgeting. But the financial independence movement really help me change my perspective, and my goals. I jumped into blogs, facebook groups and podcasts with both feet. I had no trouble understanding the discussions, but I encountered a lot of people who did. These were beginners trying to make sense of advanced advice on investing, travel hacking, and budgeting. The truth is, its impossible to talk about optimizing your 401k if you don’t understand how 401k’s work in the first place. And before you consider travel hacking with your credit cards, you need to understand how credit scores work.

The second thing that happened in my life was that my older children reached adulthood and started experiencing milestones with financial significance, like marriage, children, and home ownership. My younger children started reaching high school age and considering college visits. It struck me how many very significant financial decisions we all make between the ages of 17 and 27. And how many of these are made blindly because no one taught us the basics of financial literacy in the same way were taught to drive a car.

This made me realize that, you can’t optimize your finances if you don’t understand your finances. Too many people reach 50 and wish they had started on a better track financially when they were 20. So I thought–okay, maybe I can provide a resource for that.

So if you’re 17 and just getting started in your adult life, this is the place for you. And if you’re 45 and realizing there are things you don’t fully understand, this is the place for you too. There is no judgement here. In fact, it takes a lot of wisdom to acknowledge what you don’t know. I look forward to this journey together.
